I was asked to write this article for the Malaysian Indian Students Association-Kursks Chapter page on Facebook, so i thought, might as well share it on my blog. what the heck rite.. anyway, here it is:
First of all, I have a confession to make. I'm not a football fan and prior to writing this article, I had not availed the chance of witnessing a match (mostly because I never bothered). Therefore, going for the MISA Cup 2011 (which was the first sports event organized by MISA) was a new kind of experience, as it made me realize that there is more to football than just a group of guys chasing after one tiny ball. Because football is a game of strategy, military tactics, teamwork, physical strength, deception, and espionage.
As the match was about to kick off at 7pm in the sports zal at Pharmacorpus, the players from the teams Samba Monkeys, Brotherly Love FC, Redz, Cincai FC, Maharaja 2 and Shaolin FC were spirited to start and the spectators were excited to watch all the upcoming action.
Here’s a little something about the matches:
The first match kicked off with the Brotherly Love FC being the underdogs, as they were up against the previous MY Games champions, the Samba Monkeys. Both team started off strongly, by half time the score was two - nil and it remained that way till the end.
The following match was Redz Vs Cincai FC. The Cincai FC had no substitutes and this meant all five of the players had to play till the referee’s whistle was blown at the end of the match. Meanwhile, the Redz were in a glorious state as they won the match five - nil (with Khaleel scoring four of those goals)
The third match was Maharaja 2 vs Shaolin FC with one – nil as the score. This was one of the matches that got a lot of attention from the spectators. It was interesting to watch the new junior team (Shaolin FC) playing against the seniors.
The next match was between Brotherly Love Vs Cincai FC with the score of four- one. Match 5 was Samba Monkeys vs Shaolin FC with the score of six- nil. Last but not least, the final match for the day was Redz vs Maharaja 2 with seven – one.
The event was filled with players in their best game-mode, the ball soaring towards the goal post and spectators cheering at the top of their lungs. It was fun and exhilarating to watch a game that invokes that warrior spirit in both the players and the spectators. The MISA CUP 2011 is definitely off to a good start!
- P/s: Having more spectators would definitely make the event more livelier, so feel free to come to the upcoming matches to show your support.
